Tessie M. 'Bujnovsky' Curtin

–

Tupper Lake, New York

Tessie M Curtin 94 of Tupper Lake passed away on Monday, July 28th, 2014 at Mercy Living Center Nursing home where she has resided since January 2011.

Tessie was born on February 15, 1920 in Hudson New York to Hungarian parents, Stephen and Theresa Bujnovsky. She was the eldest of three children. Tessie proudly graduated from Hudson City High School in 1938. She worked hard to follow her dream of becoming a nurse and graduated with honors from Hudson City Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. Soon after nursing school, Tessie joined the United States Army as a Registered Nurse and began her nursing career in the Army at Fort Dix New Jersey as a 1st Lieutenant. She was then transferred to Hollerand General Hospital in New York City, where she met her future husband, Master Sergeant George F. Curtin. Because of war time the couple secretively got married at the Christ of the King Church in the Bronx on February 6, 1944. Since George was a Sergeant and Tessie an officer; the Army separated them for them for over one and a half years only after being newly married a few months. In July 1944 Tessie found herself shipping out across the Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Mary to set up Camp Lufton- near Yeovil, England. Tessie returned home to the United States and was reunited with her husband on Oct. 17th 1945. Soon after their discharge from the Army, they both accepted jobs at the VA Hospital in Tupper Lake, NY. The young couple made Tupper Lake home for the rest of their lives where they raised their family. Tessie retired from NYS Sunmount DDSO as a head nurse in 1980. Tessie was an active member of St. Alphonsus Parish, and an active member of the Adult Choir, and the Saint Anne's Society. She loved to cook and bake Hungarian dishes, sew and learn new crafts any chance she could. Her favorite past times were reading books, and playing Rummy. She was always undefeated and would challenge anyone a quick game.

She is survived by her brother Stephen Barton of Dover NH, and several nieces and nephews. One Daughter, Cyndee and husband Joseph Sweet of Tupper Lake, NY. Two Granddaughters and their Husbands; Stacey and John Sawyer of Bluffton SC., Katie and Levi Martin, and one great granddaughter-Cooper Colleen Martin from Raleigh NC. Two grandsons Michael Curtin Blue of Seattle WA., and Shamus G. Cusson from Mechanicville, NY. Tessie was predeceased by One Daughter, Colleen Curtin Blue of Waterbury VT in 1996, her sister Ethel Singer of Hudson NY in 2003, and her beloved husband George on April 8th 2013.
