Tupper Lake, New York
Rodney D Boushie, 77, of Tupper Lake New York passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at Adirondack Medical Center with family by his side.
Rod was born in Tupper Lake on January 9, 1949 to Richard and Phyllis (McCauley) Boushie.
He was a graduate of THS in 1967. After graduation he went on to become a Medic in the Army Reserves from 1967 to 1973.
Upon returning home, Rod became an avid carpenter by trade, inherited from his father Richard, who also passed on down to Rods brothers and nephews. A trade that they all have mastered and truly been blessed with. Their love of carpentry is well known here at home. Rod loved to build bird houses, rustic furniture, Birchwood mirrors, homes and remodeling jobs. All which he really took pride in. He had an eye for detail and made each project a unique one. His last project being a surprise scarecrow of such craftsmanship that he placed in Cathy's garden waiting for her to spot it !
True craftsmanship I must say and I'm jealous.
Rod worked at Sunmount DDSO for 25 years as a maintenance supervisor and retired in 2005.
Although he tried to retire, he couldn't seem to stay still so he started puttering in his shop and that's when he became quite a Master of the bird houses, just like his dad. Made of the same mold they just couldn't stay idle. So much talent, so much to give, and he was a giver. If you took interest in something, it was at your door. Mostly I will miss tooting my horn watching you walk to your shop and getting the big wave and you blowing me a kiss. Haunts me every night.
Rod enjoyed so many things it's hard to name them all. Cathy by his side every venture. Hot, cold, didn't matter. In the woods, in a boat, in an ice shack!
He was a member of the volunteer ambulance and rescue squad and the Tupper Lake fire department for many years becoming chief in both for a period of years.
Rod loved his family gatherings He and Cathy hosted Football parties every Sunday and we'd enjoy family, food, libations and tons of laughs and stories! True or not!
We enjoyed listening to his fishing and hunting stories like I say true or not. A wink or two from Cathy would let us know if it was true or false.! Always reminding us how much he loves us and how much he enjoys his time with us and that he wanted us to continue doing it every Sunday.
Rod loved just so many things in life. He loved to camp, fish, hunt our family clam bakes, (always our cook) Cathy -cook #2, our pig roasts, Pontoon Flotillas, our trips to Las Vegas, Caribbean cruises, four wheeling expeditions and his e-bike ventures he truly enjoyed.
The list just goes on and on. We were so lucky to be able to do all this with him and grateful for all the things he was able to do that he loved with Cathy, always by his side -40 Ice Fishing —not for me! But she loved it Derby after Derby!!
Rod was also a member of the River Ridge Hunting Club since about 1975. He had many friends in that club that I'm sure will miss him and miss the stories. (They may have more food now) he loved camp food and they were prepared!
His proudest accomplishment was his two daughters, Kelsey and Eliza. He was so proud of them and was blessed with beautiful grandchildren that he cherished. His wish was that they lived closer and he had more time with them.
Rod is survived by his daughters, Kelsey (Suhail) Shaikh of London, England, and Eliza Boushie of Columbus, Ohio.
His Fiancé, and love of his life, for 28 years, Catharine Shaheen of Tupper Lake.
