Penny Shanty

Penny Shanty, age 65, of Tupper Lake, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on November 2, 1960, in Lyons, NY, Penny was the beloved daughter of Arthur "Bud" and Theresa Shumway.

Penny dedicated her life to her family, her cherished cats, and her love of crafting. She was known for her unwavering devotion to the New York Jets and for the comfort and joy she brought to everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Renee (John) Chesbrough and Stephanie (Mikal) Thompson; her grandchildren, Hope, Olivia, Candice, Matthew, and Zoey; her siblings, Sherry (Richard) Beaudette, Cynthia Hritz, Rick (Val) Shumway, and Gary (Judi) Shumway; and her husband, Lloyd Shanty. She was predeceased by her parents.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 17 at 10:00AM at Gale Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life at Hollingsworth Hall in Tupper Lake, New York.
