Ogdensburg, New York
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Norman C. Martel, a loving and supportive husband, father, and Papa who left us on August 31, 2026. Norman was born in Ogdensburg, NY, on March 12, 1957, and spent his entire life in the town he loved so much. His generous spirit and compassionate nature touched everyone he met. A dedicated carpenter by trade, Norman retired from the Carpenter Union 277, Watertown, NY, after many years of hard work and dedication.
Norman was a man of many passions and hobbies. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, trapping, and fishing, and was a proud member of the Coolbrook Hunting Club in South Edwards. An enthusiastic sports fan, he was a fervent supporter of the Yankees and the NY Giants, and loved watching his beloved grandkids play their sports. Norman also had a deep affection for his dog, Gordy, and enjoyed the thrill of watching NASCAR. He was a 1975 graduate of OFA and spent his early years working with his father in construction, then as a logger at his family sawmill called Martel & Son's Sawmill. He continued his career at Fort Drum as a laborer in the Carpenter Union, and then at Collins-Hammond and Doyle Builders before he became disabled.
Norman is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Bonnie Martel, his children, Erin (Darrick) Martel, Justin Martel, and Norman Martel II, his grandchildren, Hayden Ward, Seth Martel, Hayes Adams, and Blake Martel, his siblings, Marty (Brenda) Martel, Cathryn (Bill) Perry, Darlene (Charles) Corrice, and Carl (Heather) Martel II, Parker (Debbie) Piercey, Scarlett (Kerrick) Fletchall. He is also survived by his Step Mother Glory P. Martel, sister in laws Brenda (Jay) Lipinsky, Wendy (Chris) Bolton, Chrissy (Scott) Harrison, brother in laws, Roger (Jennifer) Bushey, John (Julie) Bushey. Norman had a large group of close friends that he deeply loved so much. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl E. Martel and Carol Downing Martel, brother in law Bryan J. Bushey and his dear friend, Chuck Roach.
