Leon 'Sonny' Savard

Leon Sonny Savard- Sonny Savard, 85, passed away on May 11, 2015 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac lake with his family by his side.

Sonny was born on June 14, 1929 in Tupper Lake, the son of Leon J and Gladys (Boucher) Savard. He was a member of Tupper Lake High School class of 1948. After Sonny left school, he worked at Savard's Upholstery shop for about 4 years and then moved to Syracuse where he was employed in an upholstering business there. Sonny was drafted in 1951 into the Army and was sent to Arkansas for training. He then went to Korea for 15 months and was mustered out in May of 1953. After returning to New York Sate he worked for a short time in Canastota. Sonny then returned to Tupper Lake for the next 45 years working in the upholstering shop. Sonny retired in 1998. Sonny and Mary Ellen LaPlante from Oneida Castle, NY were married at Holy Name Parish on September 12, 1953 and became the proud parents of 4 children; Randy (Bill) Yasment of Saratoga, Dana (Pam) Savard, Holly (Larry) Churco and Ellen (Jim) Kentile all of Tupper Lake. Their grandchildren are Andrea (Paul)Marshall of Florida, Nicole (Jeremiah) St. Louis of Lake Placid, Kody (Mary) Churco of Tupper Lake, Lee (Cody) Holyoke, of Clifton Park, John Yasment of Saratoga, Griffin Savard of Tupper Lake, Karen (Will Mineau) Kentile of Dallas, TX, and Sonny James Kentile of Tupper Lake. Great grandchildren are Kayle Marshall and Kylen Churco. Sonny has 3 living siblings; Marie Kraft of Zellwood Station, Florida, Don Savard of Harrison, MI, and Roy Savard of Tupper Lake. Sonny was pre-deceased by his brothers; Richard, James, Edward, Robert and a sister Evelyn Willett.

Calling hours are scheduled for Thursday, May 14th from 4 - 7 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 2pm at Holy Name church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
