John Winton Carl

Arrangements for John Winton Carl Sr, age 87 of Malone, who passed away July 1st, 2024 have been entrusted through the Frary Funeral Homes and Cremation Service of Malone.

John is survived by his wife, Clara Sancomb Carl; his children, John Carl Jr. and wife Angie; his grandchildren Alisha Martin, Brett (Nicki) Townsend, Brian Townsend, Brandee Townsend, Johnathan & Whitney, Kimberly, Katelyn, and Austina Martina; his eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousin; his two brothers-in-law Paul and Theresa Sancomb, Bruce and Lois Sancomb, and sister-in-laws; and his beloved dog Elliott Ness. He was predeceased by his daughter Crystal Townsend, a son, Frankie Carl, and two great-grandchildren Braylee and Hayes.

John was born on July 31st, 1936 in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Winton Nels Carl and Evelyn Dovona Bruce. In 1956, he joined the United States Armed Forces and served under the Air Force for two years. He then married Clara Sancomb on December 14th, 1968 in North Westernville, NY. John went to work as a Chief Union Steward at Revere Copper and Brass Products, in Rome, NY. He was the past commander of Western Memorial 1846 American Legion.
