James Brooks

–

North Bangor, NY

James Douglas Brooks, known affectionately as Jim or "Brooksy" by those who knew him best. Jim passed away on September 28, 2026, after a very short courageous relapse of cancer, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, adventure, and ambition.

Born in Malone, NY on February 9, 1961 to the late John D. and Dorothy M. (Brown) Brooks, James' life was a testament to his spirit of adventure and his boundless capacity for hard work and spending time with those he loved most.

James' love for machinery and the open road led him to California for a short time where he was a mechanic and built hot rods and even took up riding horses.

After returning to Malone, Jim found a fulfilling career with the New York State Department of Transportation, where he worked as a truck driver until his retirement in 2023.

He proudly upheld the values of hard work and dedication, helping out whenever he could and was known for his meticulous nature, always keeping his truck and house immaculate.

James was an able mechanic, a talented craftsman, master of trimming trees and a lover of the outdoors. His enjoyed hunting, four-wheeling, riding his Harley Davidson, and building hot rods. He found joy in driving around looking for deer, spending time with his family as much as he could. He loved to sit outside, relishing in the beauty of nature and especially the setting sun.

James was a man of many qualities, but his adventurous spirit, resilience, and ambition were what set him apart. He was never married, choosing instead to devote his time to the things and people he loved most.

He is survived by his family, Brian & Lisa G. Brown, James' partner Malinda Klepfer & Marley. Cheyanne & Anthony, Scottie & Michaela, Fabian & Kourtney, Lisa & Corky, Jack, Bob, Beth & Sarah, Billy, Karen, Valerie, Uncle Donald & Valerie, Aunt Ann, and his Twisted Sisters, Cheryl & Michelle.

James was preceded in death by his loving parents, John and Dorothy Brooks.

As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the life of a man who lived each day to the fullest, who embraced every challenge with courage and resilience, loved deeply and who left an indelible mark on the world.

Relatives and friends are invited for a funeral service on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 10am at the Frary Funeral Home, located at 530 East Main Street, Malone, New York.
