Elaine E. Terry

Elaine E. Terry, age 91, passed away with her family at her side on September 24, 2026 at Canton Potsdam Hospital. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, 33 Park Street, Gouverneur.

Elaine was born on February 25, 1935 in Champlain to the late Ralph and Doris (Turnbull) Matott. She graduated from Canton Central School. On June 11, 1965 she married Harold “Pete” Terry Sr. in Pitcairn.

Effie is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Paul) Castle of Rome, a son, Ralph of Fine, a stepson Harold “Manny” (Valerie) Terry of Massena, a step daughter Pauline Nieves of Canton, her grandchildren, Brian Terry, Craig Terry, Terry Gibbs, Lisa MacDonald, Kyle (Kelly) Copeland, Coty (Jack) Dorsey, Dustin (Brittney) Terry and Amanda (Michael) McDermott. Several great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, grandsons Christopher Terry and Dennis Gibbs, a daughter in law, Ronna Terry, her siblings, Burton, Clinton, Owen, Lloyd, Leland, Joyce, Thelma, Alaine, and Wilma.

Effie enjoyed knitting, cooking and baking, her donuts were known far and wide. She enjoyed going out to eat, playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, watching the birds or just sitting looking out her window from her apartment. She also enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her family. Her door was always open for a cup of coffee and conversation.

Memorial donations in Effie’s memory may be made to Tunnels to Towers.
