Doris Champagne, a loving presence in the Malone community and a dedicated soul to her family and friends, passed away on October 23, 2026, at the age of 91 at her home with her family by her side. Born Doris Marceau on January 20, 1935, in Malone, New York, to the late John and Leona (Moore) Marceau. Graduated from Franklin Academy and then went to Harper Method School in Rochester and earned a certificate of cosmetology. She went to work as a beautician at Muriel Scully’s in the Flanagan Hotel and for Ramona Paquin. She married the love of her life Francis (Nanny) Champagne on December 1, 1956 at Notre Dame Church in Malone. A woman of deep faith, Doris was a devoted communicant at Notre Dame, where she found spiritual solace and community. Her life was one of dedication and love, serving as a switchboard operator in the telecommunications industry, where her warm voice and friendly demeanor connected countless people over the years. She also was a secretary for Dr. William Forbes and Richard Hook for many years. Doris exemplified the adventurous spirit; she was an avid golfer at Highland Greens and enjoyed lively bridge games at the Malone Adult Center, where her quick wit and contagious laughter made her a beloved companion. Her vibrant presence will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Doris was as adventurous as she was devoted, always ready to explore new horizons, whether on the golf course at Highland Greens or while playing bridge at the Malone Adult Center. Her social calendar was often filled with gatherings at the Malone AmVets Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Malone Elks Lodge 1303, where she was known for her warm smile and infectious laughter. Her love of life and her family was truly inspirational, and she cherished every moment spent with them, especially her son Charles and daughter-in-law Stephanie. Doris was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Allison, and her brothers, John and Anthony, but her legacy of love and resilience lives on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Doris is survived by her brother, Stephen Marceau, and sister, Audrey Stickney, as well as a circle of extended family and friends who will greatly miss her vivacious spirit and generous heart. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis (Nanny), her parents, John and Leona Marceau, but their teachings of faith and love continued to guide her throughout her life.
