Interment will be held at Oswegatchie Mausoleum following funeral services. Mrs. Montroy passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at her home in Ogdensburg with her son by her side.
Bernice is survived by her son, Scott Montroy and his wife, Renae, of East Syracuse; grandchildren, Kami Montroy and Kayli Montroy of both of East Syracuse; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband, Leonard Montroy, her parents, Oswald Valois and Leona Ramsey; her step father, Mayland Ramsey; and sisters, Beatrice Conger and Beverly Newton.
Bernice was born on August 28, 1940, in Ogdensburg, New York, the daughter of the late Oswald Valois and Leona (Dominie) Ramsey. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy with the Class of 1959. On June 16, 1962, she was united in marriage to Leonard Adrien Montroy at St. Mary’s Cathedral, with Reverend Monsignor Joseph Bailey officiating the ceremony. Bernice began her professional career at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital and later continued her service at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg, where she worked as a therapy aide and payroll clerk until her retirement in 1995.
Bernice found simple comfort in spending time with her son’s Golden Retriever, Ellie, and always kept Fox News running in the home. One of the great highlights of her life was traveling across Northern New York and Canada to watch her son play hockey during his younger years. An affectionate and sociable woman, she loved connecting with people and was never happier than when bragging about her cherished grandchildren.
Donations may be made in Bernice’s memory to St. Mary’s Cathedral, 415 Hamilton St., Ogdensburg, NY 13669.
